Ensemble Vintage Köln, founded in Cologne in 2009 as a period instrument ensemble, concertizes internationally and has been presented by various German radio stations (SWR, HR and WDR) and record labels (BIS, Naxos, Eigenart). Special projects include the Rosary Sonatas of H.I.F. Biber, the complete Violin Sonatas by G.F. Handel, a staged version of Bach’s Cantata “Christ Lag in Todesbanden” and his “Musical Offering.” The musicians bring together decades of experience with historical experts and renowned ensembles. Violinist Ariadne Daskalakis pursues a unique career on both modern and baroque violin, celebrating the gamut of the violin repertoire. Rainer Zipperling is sought after equally as cellist and gambist by ensembles including the English Baroque Soloists and the Bach Collegium Japan. Andreas Nachtsheim specializes in Renaissance and Baroque repertoire and appears with the Lautten Compagney Berlin as well as many baroque opera theatre productions. Michael Borgstede plays harpsichord, fortepiano and organ, appearing regularly as soloist and with the Ensemble Musica Ad Rhenum.
Ariadne Daskalakis [baroque violin]
Ariadne concertizes internationally on both baroque and modern violin. She has appeared as soloist with esteemed orchestras and period instrument ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Athens, Stuttgart and Dortmund, the Academy for Ancient Music Berlin, the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra and Concerto Köln. She was a leader of Ensemble Oriol and the Manon Quartet Berlin and cofounded Ensemble Vintage Köln. Her extensive recording repertoire ranges from early baroque to contemporary composers. As Artistic Director of Music from Land’s End Wareham and the European Arts Academy Palazzo Ricci, she also collaborates in interdisciplinary projects with composers, artists and dancers.
Ariadne Daskalakis studied at the Juilliard School, Harvard University and the HdK Berlin. She won prizes from the ARD International Competition, the St. Louis Symphony Strings Competition, the Mozart Society Dortmund and the Harvard Musical Association. She is Violin Professor at the Cologne Conservatory.
About West Cork Chamber Music Festival
The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place annually in Bantry, County Cork. For ten days, from the last Friday in June, a world-class line-up of international ensembles and soloists perform an extensive programme of concerts which run from morning to late night. The two main venues are the intimate library of the historic Bantry House, which overlooks Bantry Bay; and St Brendan’s Church in the centre of Bantry. The Festival also includes a full schedule of performance workshops and masterclasses with resident student ensembles, composition workshops, public talks with artists as well as exhibitions and demonstrations from instrument makers.
