About the Artists

Johannes Moser [cello]

Hailed by Gramophone Magazine as "one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists", Johannes has performed with the world’s leading orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, BBC Philharmonic at the Proms, London Symphony, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Tokyo NHK Symphony, Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, Wiener Philharmoniker and Oslo Philharmonic. 2017 Johannes won his 3rd ECHO Klassik ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ award. 2018/19 Johannes will be Artist-in-Residence with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Oregon Symphony. Festival appearances include the Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein, Gstaad and Kissinger festivals, the Mehta Chamber Music Festival, and the Colorado, Seattle and Brevard music festivals. He was the top prize winner at the 2002 Tchaikovsky Competition, and was awarded the Special Prize for his interpretation of the Rococo Variations. 2014 he was awarded with the prestigious Brahms prize.

Paul Rivinius [piano]

 Paul received his first piano lessons at the age of five. His teachers were first Gustaf Grosch in Munich, later Alexander Sellier, Walter Blankenheim and Nerine Barrett at the Musikhochschule in Saarbrücken. He continued his piano studies with Raymund Havenith. In 1994 he was accepted into Gerhard Oppitz’s master class at the Musikhochschule in Munich, which he completed with honours in 1998. Paul was for a long time member of the Bundesjugendorchester and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he won several prizes with the Clemente Trio, including the renowned ARD Music Competition in Munich in 1998 and subsequently performed as the “Rising Star” ensemble in the world’s ten most important concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and Wigmore Hall in London. Paul plays in the Rivinius Piano Quartet together with his brothers Benjamin, Gustav and Siegfried. Since 2004 he has been pianist of the Mozart Piano Quartet, which has gained international reputation through extensive tours in North and South America and Asia.

About West Cork Chamber Music Festival

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place annually in Bantry, County Cork. For ten days, from the last Friday in June, a world-class line-up of international ensembles and soloists perform an extensive programme of concerts which run from morning to late night. The two main venues are the intimate library of the historic Bantry House, which overlooks Bantry Bay; and St Brendan’s Church in the centre of Bantry. The Festival also includes a full schedule of performance workshops and masterclasses with resident student ensembles, composition workshops, public talks with artists as well as exhibitions and demonstrations from instrument makers.
