About the Artists
Rosanne Philippens [violin]
Rosanne Philippens is an extraordinary communicator, with an innate musicality and a joyful yet sincere approach to music-making. She is in high demand across the Netherlands where she performs regularly as soloist and chamber musician. Philippens’s playing is refined, exuberant and profound, and was described by the Dutch daily paper De Telegraaf as “energetic, sensitive and flawless”.
Recent highlights include performances with the Rotterdam Philharmonic at De Doelen, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic in the prestigious Zaterdag Matinee series and the Residentie Orkest both in The Hague and at the Concertgebouw Hall, Amsterdam. Elsewhere Philippens has played with the Barcelona Symphony, the Ulster Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony and with orchestras across Germany, Finland and Switzerland, with conductors including Yannick NézetSéguin, Lawrence Foster, Otto Tausk, Jan-Willem de Vriend, Antony Hermus and Nicholas Collon.
In recital and chamber music, Philippens plays regularly with artists such as István Vardai, Vilde Frang, Julien Quentin, Vikingúr Olafsson, Amihai Grosz, Camille Thomas and Zoltán Fejérvári.
Julien Quentin [piano]
French pianist Julien Quentin has established himself as a versatile and sensitive musician, exhibiting great maturity and poise. His remarkable depth of musicianship and distinct clarity of sound coupled with flawless technique, make him an artist in demand as both soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared at the Concertgebouw, the Wigmore Hall, the Louvre, the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Gewandhaus, the Konzerthaus, the Mariinsky Theatre, in Avery Fisher, Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall. Born in Paris, Julien Quentin started his studies at the Geneva Conservatory with Alexis Golovine. He completed his Artist Diploma under the tutelage of Emile Naoumoff at Indiana University, where he held a one-year teaching position as Assistant Instructor and was a recipient of the Presser Award. He then received his Graduate Diploma from the Juilliard School, where he studied with György Sándor.
About West Cork Chamber Music Festival
The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place annually in Bantry, County Cork. For ten days, from the last Friday in June, a world-class line-up of international ensembles and soloists perform an extensive programme of concerts which run from morning to late night. The two main venues are the intimate library of the historic Bantry House, which overlooks Bantry Bay; and St Brendan’s Church in the centre of Bantry. The Festival also includes a full schedule of performance workshops and masterclasses with resident student ensembles, composition workshops, public talks with artists as well as exhibitions and demonstrations from instrument makers.
