Caroline Melzer [soprano]

Caroline Melzer dazzles with her “clear, big-framed sunny soprano“ (Eleonore Büning FAZ) and her unusually wide repertoire, ranging from big lyrical and jugendlich-dramatic roles to Operetta divas to contemporary works written specifically for her. She studied singing with Rudolf Piernay and Vera Scherr and song interpretation with Ulrich Eisenlohr and Irwin Gage.

Her first permanent engagement took the singer to the Komische Oper Berlin in 2007. From 2010 until 2017 she was an ensemble member at the Vienna Volksoper. Highlights of her other opera engagements include appearances at the Ruhrtriennale, at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Savonlinna Festival in Finland and in Tokyo.

As part of her activities as a lieder and concert singer, Caroline Melzer has performed in renowned European halls such as the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Musikverein Vienna, the Kunstzentrum deSingel Antwerp, the Cité de la Musique Paris, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Tonhalle Zürich, deDoelen Rotterdam, Tchaikowsky Conservatory Moscow, the Town Hall Birmingham and the Liederhalle Stuttgart.

Cédric Pescia [piano]

Pescia was the brilliant First Prize Winner at the 2002 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition. In 2007, he received the Prix Musique de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la culture. He was a prizewinner at the Bourse de la Fondation Leenaards in Lausanne. He is founding member and artistic director of the Lausanne chamber music series Ensemble enScène. In 2012 he was appointed professor for piano at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève. He has performed at the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Hamburg Laieszhalle, the Mozarteum Salzburg, Carnegie Hall, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Wigmore Hall, Tonhalle Zürich, Vienna Konzerthaus and at festivals such as Prague Spring Festival, Lucerne Festival and Les Muséiques Basel. Orchestral appearances include the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Festival Strings of Luzern, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, the Camerata Bern and the Orchestre National de Lille.


About West Cork Chamber Music Festival

 

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival takes place annually in Bantry, County Cork. For ten days, from the last Friday in June, a world-class line-up of international ensembles and soloists perform an extensive programme of concerts which run from morning to late night. The two main venues are the intimate library of the historic Bantry House, which overlooks Bantry Bay; and St Brendan’s Church in the centre of Bantry. The Festival also includes a full schedule of performance workshops and masterclasses with resident student ensembles, composition workshops, public talks with artists as well as exhibitions and demonstrations from instrument makers.
